Nomad (English band)
Nomad is an English house project that was particularly successful in the first half of the 1990s. The single (I Wanna Give You) Devotion brought the international breakthrough in early 1990 and is also Nomads' biggest hit.
biography
In the late 1980s, producer , writer and columnist Damon Rochefort founded a dance project. His first name, spelled backwards, resulted in the band name Nomad. The changing members included Steve McCutcheon, Kelvin Bruno and the singer-songwriter and actress Sharon D. Clarke, who sang the 1989 hit Rich in Paradise by the FPI Project .
The first Nomad single The Raggamuffin Number , a feature with Soul II Soul member Daddae Harvey, was released in 1989. The following single (I Wanna Give You) Devotion in January 1990 was a worldwide success. The song placed in the top 20 in Germany , in the top 10 in Austria and Switzerland and even rose to number 2 in England . Although the track did not reach the American Billboard Hot 100 , it became number one for the Billboard Dance Music / Club Play singles .
Just a Groove followed a quarter of a year later . The single could only reach a top 10 position in Switzerland, in the UK charts the song was in the top 20, in Germany and Austria only middle chart positions were possible. With Something Special (1991), Your Love Is Lifting Me and 24 Hours a Day (both 1992) Nomad was only able to achieve minor successes at home. This was achieved for the last time in 1995 with a new version of (I Wanna Give You) Devotion .
