Nomada carnifex is a bee from the family of Apidae .
features
The bees are 7 to 8 millimeters long. The head and thorax of the females are black and have red markings. The tergites are red, the base of the first is black. The labrum is black and has three strong teeth. The third antenna segment is the same length at the bottom as the fourth. The eighth to eleventh links are black, the last red-yellow. The scutellum is spotted in red. The rails ( tibia ) of the hind legs are drawn out to a point at the end and have short, black, small thorns standing side by side and one above the other. In the male, the head and thorax are black with small yellow spots. The abdomen is red and has black and yellow spots on the sides. The labrum is black and has three strong teeth. The third antenna segment is the same length as the fourth. The thighs ( femora ) of the hind legs have a dense yellow patch of hair at the bottom, the rails of the hind legs have reddish small thorns at the end, but these are difficult to see through the hair.
Occurrence and way of life
The species is distributed from Spain to the Aosta Valley . The animals fly in May. It is unknown which species is parasitized by Nomada carnifex .
