The bees have a body length of 8 to 10 millimeters (females) or 7 to 9 millimeters (males). The head and thorax of the females are black and not very red. The tergites are drawn in red and partly black. The labrum, which is flat at the top, is black and has a black base. Its front edge is arched to a point. The third antennae is slightly longer than the fourth. The scutellum, flat above, is black. The rails ( tibia ) of the hind legs have several, irregularly arranged, close together, dark little thorns at the end. The males look similar to the females, but have yellow markings on their faces. Their back rails have a row of pale, pointed little thorns at the end. The thighs ( femora ) of the front legs are broadly triangular and hollowed out at the front. On the lower thighs they have a hair fringe at the bottom.

Occurrence and way of life

The species is widespread in southern and in some places also in central Europe. The animals fly from early April to early July. The species parasitizes Andrena humilis and probably Andrena fulvago as well .
