Nomada hirtipes is a bee from the family of Apidae .

features

The bees are 8 to 11 millimeters long. The head and thorax of the females are colored black and have red markings. The tergites are spotted red and partly yellow, basal at least the first tergite and in some individuals also the fourth and fifth are black. The labrum is red and has a weak, crenulated transverse edge behind the front edge. The third antennae is shorter than the fourth. The flagellum limbs are loose on top, hairy protruding. The scutellum is red and has weakly pronounced bumps. The rails ( tibia ) of the hind legs have several strong, small thorns at the end. The head of the males is black and has yellow markings. The thorax is also black and is marked only faintly yellow or red. The tergites are red and have large yellow spots, they are more or less black at the base. The labrum is yellow and toothless. The third antenna segment is much shorter than the fourth. The label is black, seldom has small red spots and is faintly humped. The rails of the hind legs have several long, pale, small thorns at the end.

Occurrence and way of life

The species is common in Central and Eastern Europe and England. The animals fly from early April to early June. They parasitize Andrena bucephala .
