Nomada mutabilis is a bee from the family of Apidae .

features

The bees have a body length of 9 to 11 millimeters (females) or 8 to 11 millimeters (males). The head and thorax of the females are red and black. The tergites are red, in some individuals the second tergite has yellow spots. The labrum is more or less black and has a transverse ridge with teeth behind the front edge. The third antenna element is slightly longer than the fourth. The scutellum is mainly red, has weak bumps and is dense and finely structured. The tergites are also finely structured in dense dots, their rear edges are finely shagreened and not dotted. The rails ( tibia ) of the hind legs are blunt at the end and have two or three thick, small thorns. The males are similar to the females, but their tergites are spotted yellow. The label is black. The anterior tarsal limbs 1 and 2 are characteristic long hairy below. The thighs ( femora ) of the hind legs are provided with a long hair fringe at the bottom. The rails of the hind legs are slightly pointed at the end and usually have two small thorns.

Occurrence and way of life

The species is common in southern and central Europe. The animals fly from mid-May to late July. They parasitize Andrena chrysopyga , Andrena labialis, and maybe Andrena polita .
