features

The bees are 11 to 13 millimeters long. The head and thorax of the females are black and yellow. The tergites have yellow bands that are interrupted in the middle of the front tergites. The labrum is yellow. It has a high transverse degree behind the front edge and is saddled across behind it. The third antennae is longer than the fourth. The flat label ( scutellum ) has a yellow, scattered dotted spot. The rails ( tibia ) of the hind legs are blunt at the end and have a strip of several short, small thorns. The males are similar to the females, but their third to sixth sternite are long, hairy yellow and the rails of the hind legs are provided with a row of small thorns at the end, which are difficult to recognize through the hair.

Occurrence and way of life

The species is widespread in southern and in some places also in central Europe. The animals fly from mid-May to late June. They parasitize the genus Eucera , probably Eucera interrupta .
