The bees have a body length of 6 to 7 millimeters (females) or 4 to 7 millimeters (males). The head and thorax of the females are black and drawn in red. The tergites are either red, or spotted dark and indistinctly light. The very hairy labrum is red and has three teeth. The underside of the head is very coarse next to the throat groove, wrinkled like a thimble. The third antenna segment is the same length at the bottom as the fourth. The scutellum has two red spots. The rails ( tibia ) of the hind legs are drawn out at the end to a blunt point, have a long bristle hair and one to three, fine, short, small thorns. The head of the males is black and yellow. The thorax is also black, but is marked yellow-red and red. The tergites are brown-black and are spotted yellow. The labrum is yellow and has dark spots. The third antenna segment is the same length or slightly longer than the fourth. All the antennae are longer than they are wide. The fourth to sixth link have round nodules on the back. The label has two red spots that often merge with one another. The thighs ( femora ) of the rear legs have a hair spot with thick hair at the bottom. The rails of the hind legs are blunt at the end, have a bristle hair and two or three small thorns.

Occurrence and way of life

The species is widespread in Central Europe, east to Russia. The animals fly from mid-May to late July. They probably parasitize small species of the Lasioglossum genus .
