Nonfermenter

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Nonfermenters (also non-fermenting bacteria ) are a taxonomically inconsistent group of aerobic bacteria in the Proteobacteria department , which break down glucose oxidatively or not at all and are not capable of fermentation in the sense of fermentation . However, this does not rule out that some types of glucose or other sugars can break down. This is because they have metabolic pathways that are summarized as anaerobic respiration . More correct (but less used) is the term anoxic breathing, since without oxygen (O 2 ) they are still able to carry out an oxidative energy metabolism . Instead of O 2 others are electron acceptors as oxidizing agent used, such as nitrate or trivalent iron - ions (Fe 3+ ).

These cocoa or rod-shaped bacteria can be assigned to the wet germs . They are not spore-forming and are also gram-negative . Some species are also pathogens for humans, which is why their detection (e.g. with API NE) is of great relevance in bacterial diagnostics.

Only the genera are listed below.

Pathogenic species such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Moraxella catarrhalis are also represented .
