Nora Dolores Volkow (born March 27, 1956 in Mexico City ) is an American brain researcher and addiction expert.

Live and act

Volkov is the second of four daughters of Esteban Volkov and thus a great-granddaughter of the Russian revolutionary leader Leon Trotsky . She attended the Modern American School in Mexico City and studied medicine at the National University of Mexico . Volkow went to the USA for further training, where she studied at New York University . She then worked at Brookhaven National Laboratory and the State University of New York Medical School . Since 2003 she has been the director of the National Institute on Drug Abuse , a facility of the US National Institutes of Health (NIH).
