Coordinates: 60 ° 5 '  N , 15 ° 57'  E Norberg is a municipality ( Swedish commun ) in the Swedish province of Västmanland County and the historic province of Västmanland . The main town of the municipality is Norberg .

history

The first historical finds date from the 12th century and come from the remains of smelting furnaces in which the ore extracted in the Bergslagen region was melted. The Polhemsrad (Polhemshjulet), a waterwheel that was used from 1876 to 1920 as part of a drive system for draining the ore mines of Kärrgruvan, is still preserved.

Around 1390 the freedom fighter Engelbrekt Engelbrektsson was born near , who led the Engelbrekt uprising in 1434 .
