Fagersta is a municipality ( Swedish kommun ) in the Swedish province of Västmanland County and the historic province of Västmanland . The main town of the municipality is Fagersta . Other places are Ängelsberg , Brandbo and Hedkärra .
geography
The municipality is one of the smallest in Sweden in terms of area and extends along the Kolbäcksån river , which forms two lakes in the municipality, Stora Aspen and Åmänningen . The municipality is located in the Bergslagen mining area , and there are several abandoned mines and smelting works in the municipality, including the Engelsberg ironworks , which is now a World Heritage Site. The nearby Engelsberg refinery is the oldest surviving facility of its kind in the world. There are also several hiking trails through the municipality, of which Bruksleden is the most famous.
economy
Fagersta is a decidedly industrial community. Around 43% of the workforce is employed in the manufacturing industry, which largely goes back to the steel group Fagersta AB, which was shut down in 1984.
