Norbert Goormaghtigh

Norbert Goormaghtigh (born February 14, 1890 in Ostend , † January 2, 1960 in Sint-Martens-Latem ) was a Belgian pathologist.

Goormaghtigh was from 1923 professor of pathology at the University of Ghent . His main focus was on the adrenal gland and the juxtaglomerular apparatus of the kidney. From 1947/48 to 1949/50 he was rector of the University of Ghent.

The extra-glomerular mesangial cells (Goormaghtigh cells) were named after him.
