Norbert Herrmann

Norbert Herrmann (* 1943 in Lomnitz, Silesia ) is a German mathematician .

Life

With his wife Gabriele, a math and physics teacher at the Burgdorfer Gymnasium, he lived in Immensen , where their children Ruth and Daniel grew up.

In 1970 Herrmann passed the state examination in mathematics at the Leibniz University of Hanover , received his doctorate there in 1982 under Helmut Epheser (dissertation: On the convergence of the grating process ) and worked as an academic senior counselor at the Institute for Applied Mathematics (IfAM) there until 2007. His calculation of parking became famous, for example in his book Mathematics is Everywhere and in the introduction to his Higher Mathematics for Engineers, Physicists and Mathematicians . In 2002 he received an honorary doctorate from Brunel University in Uxbridge, UK .

In 2008 he settled in Meißen with his wife . In 2014 the couple accompanied the special exhibition Leonardo da Vinci's machines in Meissen's city museum.

He is one of the math ambassadors for the Rechnen Foundation.
