Norbert Wolf (art historian)

Norbert Wolf (* 1949 in Regensburg ) is a German art historian .

Wolf studied art history, linguistics and medieval studies first at the University of Regensburg and then at the University of Munich. In 1983 he received his doctorate in art history. After working several times as a research assistant at the University of Munich, Wolf completed his habilitation in 1992 with a thesis on carved retables from the 14th century. Norbert Wolf worked on the research project The Art in the Holy Roman Empire , led by Wolfgang Braunfels , and was visiting professor in Düsseldorf, Frankfurt am Main, Leipzig, Marburg, Nuremberg-Erlangen and Innsbruck.

Wolf has published numerous art-historical non-fiction books, with topics ranging from medieval book illumination to Caspar David Friedrich and the erotic art of the 20th century.
