The North Central Province ( Sinhala : උතුරු මැද පළාත Uturu Mæda Paḷāta [ ˈut̪uru ˈmæd̪ə paˈlaːt̪ə ], வட மத்திய மாகாணம் Vaṭa Mattiya Mākāṇam [ ˈʋaɖə ˈmat̪ːijə ˈmaːɡaːɳʌm ], English : North Central Province ) is a province of Sri Lankas . The capital is Anuradhapura . The province consists of the two administrative districts Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa and is economically rather backward and sparsely populated. The vegetation consists mainly of tropical dry forests.
