Norik Vardanian

Norik Vardanian , also Norayr Wardanjan , (born May 15, 1987 in Gyumri ) is an Armenian-American weightlifter .

He is the son of Jurik Vardanyan , the Olympic light heavyweight champion of the 1980 Olympic Games . His family emigrated from Armenia to the USA in 1992. With 355 kg he was US champion 2008 in the class up to 94 kg. In the same year he took part in the student world championships in Komotini and was seventh in the push, but in the snatch he had no valid attempt. In 2009 he took part in the Pan American Championships in Chicago . After a first doping ban in 2009, he competed for Armenia and finished fifth at the U23 European Championships in 2010. At the Pan American Games in 2015 , Vardanian went back to the United States. In Toronto he won the silver medal with 362 kg.

Multiple doping offenses

In 2009 he took part in the Pan American Championships in Chicago . During the doping control , however, he was tested positive and banned by the world association IMF for six months. On October 6, 2016, the IMF published that Vardanian was also doped at the 2012 Olympic Games in London . He had taken dehydrochloromethyl testosterone . The IOC therefore retroactively disqualified him from the 2012 Olympic Games.
