Norma Jean (singer)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Norma Jean Baesler (born January 30, 1938 in Wellston , Oklahoma ) is an American country singer who was nominated for a Grammy award in 1967 and 1965 .

biography

Even as a child, Norma Jean Baesler admired the famous country singer Kitty Wells , who greatly influenced her style. She made her professional singer debut at the age of twelve when her rendition of " If Teardrops Were Pennies " was played on Oklahoma City Radio.

Her breakthrough came in 1958 when she became a member of the TV show Ozark Jubilee , where her colleague Red Foley encouraged her to shorten her name to "Norma Jean".

In the 1960s she was a member of the Porter Wagoner Show , which was very popular in America at the time, and was replaced there in 1967 by the then unknown Dolly Parton . Some of her singles, including Let's Go All The Way and The Game Of Triangles , were successful, reaching the top 10 and top 20 in the 1960s.
