Norman Fairclough

Norman Fairclough (* 1941 ) is a retired professor of general linguistics at Lancaster University . He is a co-founder of the sociolinguistic theory of critical discourse analysis , which examines the influence of power relations on the content and structure of texts .

Influences

Fairclough's theories were influenced in the linguistic field by Michail Bakhtin and Michael Halliday . Sociological influences come from Antonio Gramsci , Louis Althusser , Michel Foucault and Pierre Bourdieu , among others .
