Norman Quijano

Norman Noel Quijano González (born November 2, 1946 in Santa Ana ) is a Salvadoran politician ( ARENA ). Since 2009 he has been the mayor of the capital San Salvador . He was his party's candidate in the 2014 presidential election.

Norman Quijano completed his studies in dentistry at the Universidad de El Salvador in 1977 with a doctorate. He trained to become a specialist in maxillofacial surgery . Later he took a postgraduate course in local administration and decentralization at the Instituto Centroamericano de Administración de Empresas (INCAE).

From 1989 to 1994 he was responsible for social policy in the city administration of San Salvador under the mayor Armando Calderón Sol . He was then a member of the Salvadoran Parliament (Asamblea Legislativa) for five consecutive terms . In 2009 he was elected mayor of San Salvador. His party nominated him as a presidential candidate for the 2014 election. He lost in the second ballot to Salvador Sánchez Cerén from the left-wing FMLN with 49.89 to 50.11 percent.
