Héctor Luisi

Héctor Luisi (born September 19, 1919 in Montevideo , † August 5, 2013 in Bethesda ) was a Uruguayan diplomat and politician .

Luisi was born the son of Admiral Héctor Luisi and Berta Rodríguez. He was the grandson of the former head of the public relations department in the Uruguayan Cámara de Representantes Ángel Luisi. His aunts were the Luisi sisters Paulina, Clotilde, Luisa, Inés, Elena and Ana, who are considered to be the champions of feminism in Uruguay. Luisi himself and his wife Blanca Grosso had two children, Héctor Luisi Grosso and Blanca Luisi de Ruebensaal, as well as six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Luisi was trained at the "Escuela Naval", the naval school. He then took up a law degree at the Universidad de la República . He later studied then International Law at John Maynard Keynes and Bertrand Russell at St. John's College of Cambridge University , where he completed successfully comparative studies from. Together with others, he founded a law firm, the Estudio Jurídico Nin, Luisi & Zunino, where he specialized in international civil aviation law. He also taught at the Instituto Alfredo Vásquez Acevedo and was a lecturer at the Escuela Militar and an evening grammar school.

Luisi, who belonged to the Partido Colorado , was an advisor to Óscar Gestido in the 1960s . From February 15, 1967, until March 2, 1967, in the 40th legislative period, he held a titular mandate as senator in the Cámara de Senadores . From March 1, 1967 to April 25, 1968 he was then Foreign Minister of Uruguay . From October 10, 1967 to October 30, 1967 he also held the position of director of the Oficina de Planeamiento y Presupuesto . From April 30, 1968, he resumed his seat in the Senate with an intermittent interruption, but finally resigned on December 23, 1968. In 1969 he was appointed Uruguayan Ambassador to the United States . In the wake of the coup in 1973, he resigned in protest. After the civil-military dictatorship in Uruguay had been overcome, he was reappointed ambassador to Washington. In 1989 he left this post and retired.
