The Iron and Steel Standards Committee (FES) as part of the German Institute for Standardization is responsible for representing German interests in global and regional standardization in the field of steel and iron in the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the European Committee for Iron and steel standardization (ECISS) as well as for the elaboration of the corresponding national standards ( DIN ).

Standard areas

Standardization work is defined for the following areas and areas:

  • Delivery, quality, measurement and communication standards for all products, raw materials and processes in the iron and steel industry
  • product-specific test standards, unless there are exceptions with other standards committees
  • Standards for determining the chemical composition of iron and steel

organization

The committee has currently organized its technical work in 17 working committees:

  • Working Committee 01: Flat Products
  • Working committee 02: packaging sheet
  • Working Committee 03: Reinforcing Steel and Prestressing Steel
  • Working Committee 04: Steels for steel and pressure vessel construction
  • Working Committee 05: Mechanical Engineering Steels
  • Working Committee 06: Stainless, heat-resistant and creep-resistant steels
  • Working Committee 07: Joint Working Committee FES / DKE : Electrical Sheet
  • Working Committee 08: Wire rod and wire
  • Working Committee 09: Pipes
  • Working Committee 10: Forgings
  • Working Committee 11: Cast Steel
  • Working Committee 12: Track Construction Products
  • Working Committee 19: Other steels or products and general standards
  • Working Committee 20: Dimensional Standards for Flat Products
  • Working Committee 21: Dimensional Standards for Long Products
  • Working Committee 30: Analytical Methods
  • Working Committee 40: Iron Ores

The standardization of steels for welded round steel chains and individual chain parts takes place in close coordination with the standards committee for round steel chains (NRK).
