Norra mossen , also known as Hörninge mosse or Öjmossen , is a moor on the Swedish island of Öland in the Baltic Sea .
The moor extends north of the village Hörninge , east of Köpingsvik . It covers an area of 68 hectares with a west-east extension of 2150 meters and a north-south extension of 300 meters. To the east, the calcareous moor is dammed by the so-called Ancyluswall .
The area is rich in species. In addition to the rush edge , moist grass soils offer good living conditions for various types of orchids such as the marsh stendrums . Also Springfrosch , Harrier and rare molluscs can be observed.
In the western part of the moor peat was extracted during the Second World War . In this area the predominant bins cutting vegetation goes, in a partial verlandende sedge - or tall herb -Vegetation.
