Norte Cartel is a hardcore band from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil .
history
The band was formed in April 2006 by former members of the band Solstício. A demo with three songs was recorded without a bass player. A bass player was soon found, but after only five live appearances he was replaced by Julio Longo (ex-Serial Killer). Little by little, the performances were extended to all of Brazil and later to the rest of South America. In 2008 a split CD was recorded with the Argentinian hardcore band Otra Salida . Then Marcelo Fernandes was exchanged for Felipe Chehuan, the singer of the band Confronto . In 2010 the first own album was recorded and released worldwide.
style
Norte Cartel play medium-paced hardcore in the style of New York Hardcore , i.e. with clear metal elements and shouting instead of singing. The band itself names early NYHC and traditionalist Brazilian hardcore bands like Ratos de Porão or Agrotóxico as influences. The texts are in Brazilian Portuguese and often have a subcultural self-reference, i.e. they deal with the hardcore scene and its values. The band describes itself as apolitical, but distances itself from right-wing radical bands and refuses to perform together with them.
