North Barakpur ( Bengali উত্তর ব্যারাকপুর , Uttar Byārākpur ) is a city in the Indian state of West Bengal with around 132,000 inhabitants (2011 census). It is located in the Uttar 24 Pargana district and is part of the Kolkata agglomeration .

North Barakpur has a gender ratio of 984 women per 1000 men, a male surplus that is common for India. The city had a literacy rate of 93.90% in 2011 (men: 95.87%, women: 91.91%). Literacy is thus far above the national average and that of West Bengal. Almost 94.9% of the population are Hindus , approx. 4.3% are Muslims , approx. 0.3% are Buddhists , approx. 0.2% each are Christians or Sikhs and approx. 0.2% did not adhere to any religion participated in or practiced other religions. 6.6% of the population are children under 6 years of age.

The city has two train stations that connect it to Kolkata and the rest of India.
