North Greenwich is a London Underground station in the Royal Borough of Greenwich . It is on the border of the Travelcard tariff zones 2 and 3, on the northern tip of the Greenwich Peninsula, which is surrounded by the Thames . The event hall The O₂ is right next door . In 2014, 24.27 million passengers used this station served by the Jubilee Line .

As in the other tunnel stations of the Jubilee Line extension opened in 1999, the platforms in North Greenwich are separated from the tracks by platform screen doors. The station complex also includes a bus station , from which numerous bus routes run to Stratford (through the Blackwall tunnel ) and to Bexleyheath , Greenwich and Lewisham . The Greenwich Peninsula station of the Emirates Air Line gondola is nearby .

The planners of the Millennium Dome anticipated millions of visitors for the exhibition to be held in 2000 to celebrate the new millennium (a forecast that was far from being fulfilled). Accordingly, completely new standards were set for the station in terms of size and expansion. The architect in charge was Will Alsop . The station was opened on May 14, 1999. For a few months it was the terminus, because the first section of the extension of the Jubilee Line initially only connected North Greenwich with Stratford station . The second section towards the city center followed on September 17, 1999.
