North Lakhimpur is a city in the Indian state of Assam .
The city is the capital of the Lakhimpur district . North Lakhimpur has municipal board status . The city is divided into 14 wards . On the cut-off date of the 2011 census it had 59,814 inhabitants, of which 30,847 were men and 28,967 were women. Hindus make up the majority of the city's population with a share of over 68%. Muslims form a minority of over 30%. The literacy rate in 2011 was 85.7% and thus above the national average.
With Lilabari Airport, the city has an airfield about 5 km from the city that supplies the city. The city also has a train station which is part of the Northeast Frontier Railway zone of the Indian Railways .
