Coordinates: 31 ° 39 ′ S , 116 ° 40 ′ E The Shire of Northam is a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of Western Australia . The area is 1432 km² and has about 11,000 inhabitants (2016).
Northam is located in the west of the state about 85 kilometers east of the capital Perth . The headquarters of the Shire Council is in the city of Northam , which is home to around 6600 residents (2016)

The Northam Council has ten members. The councilors are elected by the residents of the four wards (five from the Town Ward, two each from the Central and West and one from the East Ward). The Council Chairman and Shire President are also recruited from among the Councilor.
