Coordinates: 28 ° 21 ′ S , 114 ° 38 ′ E The Shire of Northampton is a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of Western Australia . The area is 12,618 km² and has about 3,200 inhabitants.
Northampton is located on the Australian west coast about 420 kilometers northwest of the capital Perth . The seat of the Shire Council is in the town of Northampton , where about 800 residents live (2016).
The Houtman Abrolhos chain of islands, 60 kilometers off the coast, is part of the Shire of Northampton.

Northampton Council has ten members. Councilors are elected by residents of the two wards (six from Northampton and four from Kalbarri Ward). The Council Chairman and Shire President are also recruited from among the Councilor.
