Northern Portrait is a Danish indie pop band that was founded in 2007 in Copenhagen . Shortly thereafter, the band came under contract with the Santa Barbara- based indie label Matinée Records , which also has stylistically related bands such as The Lucksmiths , Cats on Fire and Math and Physics Club in its repertoire. In 2009 the first two EPs The Fallen Aristocracy and Napoleon Sweetheart were released . In the same year the band performed live for the first time in Hamburg .
The 2010 released debut album Criminal Art Lovers brought the band due to the vocal similarity of the singer Stefan Larsen to Morrissey also comparisons with his previous band The Smiths . In November 2010, the band announced the release of a new single called Pretty Decent Swimmers .
