Cats on Fire is a Finnish indie pop band from Turku .

history

The band Cats on Fire was formed in 2001 in Vaasa , a town in the Finnish province of Ostrobothnia , after the previous band , The Remington Program, broke up. Thereupon Mattias Björkas decided to found his own band on the advice of the other former band members. Despite the constantly changing line-up, the band managed to record two demos and two singles, to appear at festivals and to tour Finland in 2003 as support for the Swedish band Laakso . In 2004, the current line-up was finally found with Ville Hopponen, Kenneth Höglund and Henry Ojala. In 2006 the band released their debut EP Draw in the Reins on the Swedish label Fraction Discs , which attracted a lot of attention in the Scandinavian indie scene. Finally, the German label Marsh-Marigold Records became aware of the band and successfully marketed their first long player The Province Complains , which was released in 2007. In 2009 the band released the follow-up album Our Temperance Movement on Cargo Records . The Dealing in Antiques collection from 2010 includes songs from early EPs and singles, which are now out of print, as well as previously unreleased tracks such as the single The Hague and the White Town cover Your Woman . The third regular studio album All Blackshirts to Me was released on the new Finnish label Soliti Records in March 2012 .

style

In their indie guitar pop, the band skillfully combines lightness with musical standards. The mood in her intelligent texts alternates between pleasant melancholy and smug self-irony. In terms of style and content, the band's music is reminiscent of Morrissey and The Smiths .
