Northport is a city in the US state of Alabama . Located in Tuscaloosa County , it had a population of 21,216 in 2005 based on the updates of the census.

Northport's geographic coordinates are 33 ° 15 ′ N , 87 ° 36 ′ W (33.253917, −87.592352).
According to the United States Census Bureau , the city has an area of 38.5 km², of which 37.9 km² is land and 0.6 km² (= 1.48%) is water.
Northport is directly adjacent to Tuscaloosa , where many of the residents work. Historically, the Black Warrior River formed the border between the two cities, although today part of the shared city boundary runs on land.
Demographics
At the time of the 2000 United States Census, Northport was inhabited by 19,435 people. The population density was 1,328.3 people per km ². There were 8509 housing units at an average of 224.6 per km ². Northport's population was 71.11% White , 26.03% Black or African American , 0.19% Native American , 0.80% Asian , 0.15% Pacific Islander , 1.02% said other races belonged to, and 0.70% named two or more races. 1.92% of the population declared to be Hispanic or Latinos of any race.
