Norton Winfred Simon (born February 5, 1907 in Portland , Oregon , † June 1, 1993 in Beverly Hills ) was an American industrialist and art collector.

Simon was born into a wealthy entrepreneurial family.

With great skill and connoisseurship, he built up a rich art collection. In order to keep up with the ever more competitive art market, he bought the Duveen art dealer in 1964 . This not only gave him access to a rich art collection, but also to a huge archive, which enabled him to look specifically for interesting works of art. At the same time he was so into close contact with those for Duveen as art consultant working Bernard Berenson , who not only advised him, but as his art agent was involved.

In the 1970s, Simon decided to look for a suitable building to open his art collection to the public as a museum. He acquired the Art Institute for Contemporary Art in Pasadena , which had run into financial difficulties, and set up the Norton Simon Museum named after him there .

Norton Simon was married to actress Jennifer Jones since 1971 .
