The Norway Lake (Engl. Norway Lake ) is a small lake in the State of Minnesota . It has an area of 2.1 square kilometers and is traversed by the Pine River .

The lake is in Cass County , roughly in the middle of the state. In the south is the city of Pine River , which has a population of almost 1000 , the east and north shores of the lake belong to the Chickamaw Beach community with a little over 100 residents. In the northwest, the Pine River flows into Norway Lake, which is its only tributary. The lake's runoff is regulated by a small dam, which stands in the village of Pine River about a mile after the Pine River leaves Norway Lake.

In the late 19th century, when the region's forests were being severely cut down, Norway Lake served as a raft pond . Tree trunks washed ashore from the north collected in the lake and were then partly carried further down the Pine River. Individual sunken trunks from this era are still visible today at the bottom of the lake.

ecology

Norway Lake is a relatively shallow lake, around 3.7 meters (12 feet) deep at its deepest point. Aquatic plants grow everywhere, especially lush on the west bank. In June 2009, the state's natural resources bureau conducted a fish survey. Blue sunfish ( Bluegill, Lepomis macrochirus ) with an average size of 12 to 15 cm were caught most frequently . Of the larger species, pike ( Northern pike, Esox lucius ) and the smaller American perch ( Yellow perch, Perca flavescens ) were the most numerous. Above all, the number of pike and blue sunfish was above average in comparison with similar lakes.
