The Pine River is a right tributary of the upper Mississippi River in northern Minnesota .

The Pine River has its origin in Pine Mountain Lake near Backus . It initially flows in an easterly direction through several smaller lakes - Bowen Lake, Lindsey Lake, Brockway Lake, Lake Hattie, and Norway Lake . Then it passes the place of the same name and continues its course to the east. It now flows through Upper Whitefish Lake , Lower Whitefish Lake , Rush Lake and Cross Lake. It now meanders in a south-southeast direction and finally meets the upper reaches of the Mississippi River. The Pine River is 56 miles long.
