The Norwegian rock (literally translated from English Norwegian rock ) is a washed up over the sea Rifffelsen in the archipelago of Heard Island and McDonald Islands in the southern Indian Ocean . It is located 1.9 km southeast of the West Cape at the entrance to West Bay on Heard Island .
The name of the rock appears for the first time in a supplement to the navigational almanac The Anarctic Pilot of the British Admiralty from 1930. The name was probably intended to recall the activities of Norwegian whalers in this area at that time. The Antarctic Names Committee of Australia confirmed the designation in 1954.
