Delos Wheeler Lovelace

Delos Wheeler Lovelace (born December 2, 1894 in Brainerd , Minnesota ; died January 17, 1967 in Claremont , California ) was an American writer and journalist. He is known as the author of the novelization of the film King Kong and the white woman , one of the first "book-to-film" novels.

Life

Lovelace was the son of Mortimer Lovelace and Josephine Lovelace, nee Wheeler. He started as a reporter for Fargo Courier News in 1913 , moved to the Minneapolis Daily News in 1914, and was a reporter and night editor at the Minneapolis Tribune from 1915 to 1917 and then again from 1919 to 1920 . From 1916 to 1917 he studied at the University of Minnesota , 1919 at Harvard University and 1921 at Columbia University . From 1920 to 1931 he was a reporter for the New York Daily News and 1928-1950 deputy head of the city desk at the New York Sun . From 1950 to 1952 he was a journalist at the New York World-Telegram and Sun .

In 1917 he married the writer Maud Palmer Hart, known as the author of the Betsy Tacy children's book series , and with whom he wrote a number of books and short stories.

The novel for the King Kong film was published shortly before its theatrical release in 1932, was then reprinted in two episodes in Mystery magazine in February and March 1933 , although only Edgar Wallace was named as the author .
