The Norzinco GmbH Harz zinc oxides , shortly Norzinco is in Harzburger Bad district Harlingerode situated chemical plant. The company is in the neighborhood of Harz-Metall GmbH and C2P Germany GmbH and emerged from a sub-operation of the Harlingerode zinc smelter .

Predecessor company

Since 1937, the sales association for Harzer Zinkoxide GmbH (VHZ) has been responsible for the marketing of zinc oxide products from the Oker zinc oxide works . VHZ was 57% in the hands of Preussag AG , the rest was shared by private entrepreneurs Heubach , Haacke and Werner in Langelsheim . After zinc oxide production at the zinc oxide smelter ended in 1971 due to sales and supply difficulties, VHZ planned a new plant under its own management. For this purpose, the disused New Jersey fine zinc plant at the Harlingerode zinc smelter was taken over in 1972 and converted to zinc oxide production.

From 1988 to 2000, some of the zinc smelter's retorts were operated independently and the larger melting plant there ( induction crucible furnace ) was acquired. The management of the company was incumbent on the Heubach and Haacke families and was now called Harzer Zinkoxide GmbH (HZO). In 1998, shortly before the mini-smelter was shut down, Metaleurop SA , which was also the parent company of Harz-Metall GmbH, took over the operation. The company was then called the Metaleurop branch Harzer Zinkoxide .

Shareholder

In October 1988 Preussag AG Metall brought its metallurgical activities into Metaleurop SA, which was founded in Paris with the French mining group Penarroya . After the acquisition, the HZO initially became a branch. In 2002 there was a merger with the French competitor Norzinco SA 55% of the company, now called Norzinco GmbH Harzer Zinkoxide, was held by Metaleurop. Metaleurop renamed the Recylex Group in 2007 .

production

The zinc oxide is produced in the former fine zinc distillation columns using the so-called French process . For this purpose, the height of the bowl pillars was slightly reduced and a combustion chamber was connected instead of the condenser. In this, the escaping zinc vapor is burned with atmospheric oxygen to produce high-purity zinc oxide. Optionally, a special capacitor according to the patent of Real Compania Asturiana de Minas SA from Spain can be charged. Metallic zinc dust is deposited in it in a protective atmosphere. Using the rectification ovens produces an almost lead-free zinc oxide. Since the underflow of the so-called lead columns, the washing zinc , can be fed into a separate column, it is possible to generate a cadmium-free oxide for medical applications (e.g. creams, plaster coatings ). The system can only be charged with liquid zinc. Therefore, several Einschmelzanlagen for metallic precursors, such as exist top dross from hot-dip galvanizing and zinc scrap.

20,000 tons of zinc oxide and 4,300 tons of zinc dust are currently produced from 20,000 tons of zinc raw materials per year.
