Notoceratops is a genus of bird pelvic dinosaurs (Ornithopoda) from the group of Ceratopsia, which is known only through sparse finds.
From notoceratops only one is far lower jaw was found without teeth, who disappeared also today and not available for further investigations. Since too little data are available for a precise systematic investigation, Notoceratops is considered a nomen dubium .
The fossil remains come from the Argentine province of Chubut and were first described in 1918. The generic name means "southern horn face", the only species described is N. bonarelli . The find is dated in the Upper Cretaceous to an age of around 70 million.
Apart from Serendipaceratops , a also only sparsely preserved Ceratopsia from Australia, Notoceratops is the only find of this dinosaur group from the southern hemisphere to date. Ceratopsia are otherwise only known from East Asia and North America, but these remains could indicate a larger distribution area.
