The Notosudidae ( Gr .: Noton = back; Lat .:, Sudis = a fish) are a family of fish from the order of the lizard fish relatives (Aulopiformes). With the exception of the Northern and Southern Arctic Oceans, they live in all oceans, mostly in deeper water layers.

features

The fish are slim and, depending on the species, are 11 to 31 cm long. You don't have a swim bladder . Despite the habitat, there is also a lack of luminous organs . They have 42 to 66 scales along the lateral line organ . The larvae of the Notosudidae have a toothed maxillary, all other larvae of the lizardfish relatives are completely toothless.

Fin formula : dorsal fin 9–14, anal fin 16–21, pectoral fin 10–15.
