Notre-Dame (also: Chapelle des Templiers , German: Templerkapelle ) is a Roman Catholic chapel in Cran, a district of Treffléan in the Morbihan department in Brittany . Frescoes in the chapel have been classified as a monument historique since 1962 .

history

The chapel was built by the Knights Templar in 1182 as part of a fortified commandery and was later continuously expanded. After the Knights Templar was abolished, the chapel came into the possession of the Johanniter. The oldest part of the current building, which was built on the plan of a Latin cross, is the Romanesque transept from the 13th century. The choir was built in the 15th century, the late Gothic nave in the 15th and 16th. Century. The frescoes there are dated to the 15th century. Finally, the west portal was added, which has elements of the Renaissance style.
