Notre-Dame (German: Our Lady ) is a Roman Catholic chapel in Penhors, a district of Pouldreuzic ( Finistère department ) in Brittany . The chapel has been classified as a monument historique since 1963 and is located in a widely visible location in the dune landscape directly behind the Atlantic coast.

history

The oldest parts of the chapel in the area of ​​the choir go back to the 13th century, possibly even the 12th. In the 15th century the church was expanded, and in the 16th century two chapels were added like a transept. The arcades that separate the nave from the side aisles correspond to the building school of Pont-Croix . From the 16th to the 18th century the chapel was owned by the Benedictine priory of Locmaria . The stone tracery roof turret had to be replaced after a storm damage at the beginning of the 20th century. Also the Gothic portal in the flamboyant style as access to the churchyard and the Calvarybefore that are classified as a monument historique as an ensemble. The sacred building is now one of the most important pilgrimage sites in Bigoudenland .
