Notre-Dame (Penhors)
Notre-Dame (German: Our Lady ) is a Roman Catholic chapel in Penhors, a district of Pouldreuzic ( Finistère department ) in Brittany . The chapel has been classified as a monument historique since 1963 and is located in a widely visible location in the dune landscape directly behind the Atlantic coast.
history
The oldest parts of the chapel in the area of the choir go back to the 13th century, possibly even the 12th. In the 15th century the church was expanded, and in the 16th century two chapels were added like a transept. The arcades that separate the nave from the side aisles correspond to the building school of Pont-Croix . From the 16th to the 18th century the chapel was owned by the Benedictine priory of Locmaria . The stone tracery roof turret had to be replaced after a storm damage at the beginning of the 20th century. Also the Gothic portal in the flamboyant style as access to the churchyard and the Calvarybefore that are classified as a monument historique as an ensemble. The sacred building is now one of the most important pilgrimage sites in Bigoudenland .
