Notre-Dame de l'Assomption (Verrières-le-Buisson)
Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption is a Catholic parish church dedicated to the Assumption of Saint Mary . It is located in the French commune of Verrières-le-Buisson , about 14 kilometers southwest of Paris .

The church is located in the historic center of Verrières-le-Buisson, northwest and above today's city center, where it overlooks the Bièvre valley and Vaillant castle .
history
The church, built in the 13th century, was looted several times during the Hundred Years' War , fell victim to a major fire during the Huguenot Wars and had to be rebuilt in the 16th century. In 1881 it benefited from a restoration campaign in which the entrance and bell tower were completely repaired.
Since January 31, 1972, the church has been classified as a Monument Historique and is a listed building, as is the limestone fountain from the second half of the 19th century in the square in front of the church.
architecture
The church was built from the basic materials millstone quartz and limestone . With a four-bay , pointed arched main nave , which is framed by two side aisles and closed off by a flat choir apse , it has typical Gothic features . The entrance portal opens slightly to the southwest and is flanked by two buttresses and two large glass windows, above which a richly decorated rose window is embedded in the facade . A stone cross rises up on the triangular gable of the gable roof . The square church tower rises on the north side, supported by two buttresses at each corner. The upper part of the tower is accessible via a spiral staircase in a tourelle , which is attached to the side below the church clock.
