The Novartis Foundation is a foundation in Basel that is part of the biotechnology and pharmaceutical company Novartis .

activities

The foundation supports development projects in the health sector in Africa and on the Indian subcontinent , which aim to improve access to primary health services and medicines and to strengthen the health sector. Furthermore, the fight against leprosy , malaria and tuberculosis .

She conducts research in the areas of “Right to Health” and “ Human Rights and the Private Sector ”.

The foundation holds an annual international symposium in Basel with the aim of promoting the development policy dialogue between the private sector, non-governmental organizations, research institutions and state sponsors.

history

The foundation goes back to the Basel Foundation for Developing Countries , which was established in the 1960s by the Basel industrial companies Ciba , Geigy , Sandoz , Durand & Huguenin , Hoffmann-La Roche and Lonza .
