Novecento is an Italian new wave band.

Band history

The group went back to the common musical activities of the siblings Pino (Giuseppe), Lino and Rossana Nicolosi, who performed together at a young age. In 1977 they made the acquaintance of the singer Dora Carofiglio, who later became Lino's wife. The four of them dared musical experiments between new wave , jazz , funk and pop and in 1981 released their first EP under the name Divieto di sosta on the Ricordi label, which went unnoticed. Then they set up their own recording studio and began to produce music for other performers, first of all in the Italo Disco area .

The group's breakthrough came in 1984. Now under the name Novecento, the four musicians signed a record deal with WEA and reached number two in the single charts with their first single, Movin 'On . In the same year they had a European success with the production The Night for Valerie Dore . Novecento also released the single The Only One and the album Novecento . In 1985 the successful production of Call Me Mr. Telephone for the American singer Cheyne followed . On the Art Records label, the group released the single Excessive Love in 1986 , which was used in an advertising campaign, and the album Dreamland .

The next album Shine (1989) and the single Broadway (1988) were released on the Five Record label. Meanwhile, the group continued to work live as well as in music production. In the course of the 90s she released three albums and various singles with changing labels, after which she limited herself to production for a longer period of time, specializing in jazz style. Novecento presented part of their production in 2002 on the album Featuring ...

It wasn't until 2008 that the band returned. With the single Cry she reached the top of the single charts for the first time in her career. The single Stop the Time and the album Secret followed . While the activities as a producer continued unabated, only the little noticed album A New Day (2014) was released under the name Novecento .
