Nuala Ní Dhomhnaill
Nuala Ní Dhomhnaill (* 1952 in Lancashire , England ) is an Irish poet .
life and work
She was born in England to parents of Irish descent. After her return to Ireland in 1957, she spent most of her childhood in the Irish-speaking part of the Irish Southwest. After graduating from University College Cork in 1972, where she studied Irish and English, she married Dogan Leflef from Turkey against her parents' wishes and spent the next seven years abroad.
Shortly after her return to Ireland in 1980, she published her first collection of poems ( An Dealg Droighin ). In the meantime she has published plays for children and essays in addition to other collections of poetry.
Her work has been translated into many languages, including a. from Seamus Heaney into English. She speaks fluent Irish, English, German, Turkish, French and Dutch.
She currently resides in the Dublin area with her husband and four children .
