It is a visceromotor nucleus whose axons leave the brain via the cranial glossopharyngeal nerves , vagus nerves and accessory nerves . The nerve cells control the muscles of the palate , throat and larynx .
The nucleus ambiguus receives afferents via the tractus corticonuclearis from the cerebral cortex and from the nucleus spinalis nervi trigemini .
