Nuh Köklü

Nuh Köklü (* 1968 in Ankara ; † February 17, 2015 in Kadıköy , Istanbul ) was a Turkish journalist , writer and television employee .

Life

Köklü started journalistic work in the independent magazine Express in 1994. Then he worked for Istanbul Life and Tempo magazines. He also worked as an editor for Açık Radyo, an independent radio station in Istanbul. He later started working as a journalist for the Hürriyet and Radikal newspapers , as well as the Sabah newspaper . He then worked as a program editor at NTV until he was fired in May 2014. He was also a shop steward for the Turkish journalists' union and after the Gezi protests he became a member of a district committee.

death

Köklü was killed by a shopkeeper while holding a snowball fight with friends in Yeldeğirmeni in Istanbul's Kadıköy district after a demonstration. A snowball pounded against the window of the shop, whereupon the shopkeeper, Köklü, stabbed the group with a bread knife when attacking the group. After his death, a memorial was erected in honor of the crime scene. Köklü's last words were "I hope this is just a dream".
