history

The origins of the company go back to 1896 when Martinus van der Hagen was granted the right to produce baby milk based on cow's milk in Zoetermeer . Nine years later, the product called Nutricia milk was already being exported. In 1981, the group acquired the company Cow & Gate , which mainly produced baby food for Great Britain and Ireland. A major takeover in the hospital nutrition sector was that of Pfrimmer in 1991. In 1995, Milupa and SHS were acquired . In the same year Numico began entering the markets of the former socialist countries. The brands Bebilon / Bobovita for Poland and Malyutka / Malyshka for Russia were founded for this purpose. The holding company has been called Numico since 1997 . With the acquisition of control of the Indonesian company Sari Husada , the SGM brand belongs to Numico. In 2004 the Finnish brands Tutteli and Muksu were purchased and the Italian brand Mellin the following year . The last important takeover for the time being was in 2006 with Dumex . This brand, which originally came from Thailand, is now known in other Asian countries such as China and Malaysia.

In July 2007 Danone published a takeover offer and at year-end 2007 controlled 98.4% of Numico's shares. The company's shares were taken off the stock exchange. Numico is now fully integrated into the baby food and clinical nutrition divisions of Danone and will be continued with the Milupa and Nutricia brands. In Germany, the SHS brand was merged at the beginning of 2009 with the Pfrimmer-Nutricia brand, which serves the clinic nutrition market and provides home care services.
