Nuova Rivista Storica

The Nuova Rivista Storica (abbreviation NRS ) is an Italian specialist journal for the historical sciences . It was founded in 1917 by Corrado Barbagallo and published by the Società editrice Dante Alighieri in Milan .

In addition to Barbagallo, the editorial team consisted of Antonio Anzillotti, Guido Porzio and Ettore Rota, initially also Gioacchino Volpe . Despite the unfavorable founding time at the end of the First World War, the magazine enjoyed numerous contributors and subscribers. With the entry of the Venetian historian Gino Luzzatto in 1930 and Piero Pieri , the focus changed more towards economic and social history , at the same time, especially from 1932, she was increasingly exposed to hostility from the fascist government. Although the size of the NRS had to be reduced by the end of the war, it continued to appear. From 1942 to 1945, Gino Luzzatto had to leave the editorial office due to the Italian race laws , but returned after the end of the war. 1952-63 he was director of the magazine.

Corrado Barbagallo died in 1952, Guido Porzio in 1958. In addition to Luzzatto, Domenico Demarco, Piero Pieri and Nino Valeri took part, but Luzzatto had to resign in 1963 due to illness. The management took over Giuseppe Martini , a professor of medieval studies at the University of Milan (1964-1979). The printing was done by Silvano Spinelli, who died on December 28, 2002, but was followed by his son Mauro.

Giuseppe Martini was followed by Alberto Boscolo , who, however, after taking on a mediaeval professorship in Rome , left Milan and gave up the editorial management. This was taken over by Gigliola Soldi Rondinini , also a mediaevalist who, as a colleague of Eugenio Di Rienzo from the Roman Sapienza, stands by.

In addition to the actual magazine, the NRS publishes the Biblioteca di Nuova Rivista Storica , a series of monographs. The review section has also been published in Open Access on the Recensio.net review platform since 2013 .
