The Nur-Astana Mosque ( Kazakh Нұр Астана мешіті ; Russian Мечеть Нұр-Астана ) is a mosque in the Kazakh capital Nur-Sultan . It was opened in 2005 after three years of construction and was the largest mosque in Kazakhstan until the Hazrat Sultan Mosque was completed.

The golden dome of the mosque has a total height of 40 meters and the four minarets are each 63 meters high. The height of the dome represents the age of the Prophet Mohammed when he received the revelation and the height of the minarets symbolizes the age at which Mohammed died.

The Nur-Astana Mosque was a gift from Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev and the then Emir of Qatar , Hamad bin Chalifa Al Thani .
